Despite the fact we can teach (almost) anyone how to ride a scooter, we do have some rules and regulations to adhere to.  Please read the following page prior to your rental date.

Age Requirements

The renter must be 18 years of age to rent any of our motorized vehicles less than 50CC’s.

Driving Restrictions

Vehicles are allowed to be operated in the State of Illinois only.  In addition, vehicles less than 50CC’s do not travel at the minimum rate of speed to be operated on the expressway system.

Additional Drivers

You may add a single person to a rental for an additional fee of $ 20.00. Additional driver must be present at the time of the rental and supply all of the same information as the original renter.

Miles

All rentals come with unlimited mileage.

Helmets

All renters are provided with and are required to wear head protection.

Locking

Vehicles are released with additional locking devices to deter theft.  Locks are expected to be used whenever the vehicle is parked or left unattended for any period of time.

Inclement Weather Insurance

Windy City Scooter & Bicycle Rental will allow you to change the date of your rental to another open date (if O’Hare Airport is experiencing inclement weather at the time rental is scheduled to begin) for a fee of $10.  This insurance is only available 5 or more days prior to the rental date.  Cancellation and rescheduling may only take place prior to delivery dispatch or if it is raining at the time the rental is scheduled to begin (whichever comes first).  Insurance does not apply once the rental has started and renter has taken possession of the vehicle.

Cancellation Policy

There is a maximum $85.00 cancellation fee if the reservation is cancelled between 0-3 days of the start of the rental.

Damage Deposit Requirements

A $300 Damage deposit will be required for motorized vehicles.  This deposit will be charged to the same credit card that is used to reserve the vehicle.  An amount equal to the deposit requirement will be placed onto the credit card which will limit the maximum credit amount for a period of 2-5 business days.  After the rental period expires, the authorization will be canceled and full credit will be restated.

Payment Methods

Windy City Scooter & Bicycle Rental accepts the following methods of payment: Cash, VISA, Master Card and American Express.  When a reservation is made over email, a reservation confirmation will be emailed or a follow-up telephone conversation will take place within 2-3 business days to confirm your rental dates and times, delivery address (if applicable), and estimated total charge.  If credit card information is provided in an email, please include the expiration date of the card as well as the name of the cardholder as it appears on the card.

Rates

Rates are subject to change without notice. Special Offers or discounts may expire at any time. We reserve the right to refuse or postpone rental due to inclement weather, driving history, intoxication or any other reason that may jeopardize your safety, the safety of others and/or that of the vehicle.

Vehicle Drop-off/Pick-up

Windy City Scooter & Bicycle Rental will deliver/pick-up the rented vehicle within the Chicago land area, for a flat fee of $30 within a three mile radius of the nearest rental facility.  Charges for destinations greater than the three mile radius are $30 plus $3.50 per mile after the initial three miles.  Drop-off and pick-up must be from the same location.

Hours of Operation

Daily hours are 10:00am to 8:00pm, Thursday thru Sunday before Memorial Day and after Labor Day; while Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are by appointment only.  During the summer we are open seven days a week 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m (reservations strongly recommended).   During the winter months (December through March) we operate from 10:00am to 2:00pm, Tuesday - Saturday.  If you wish to visit us outside of these hours please call our main telephone number to set up an appointment.  Last but not least, We offer after hour’s pick-up or drop-off in emergency situations only.  Additional rates apply to after hour pick-ups.

Items Required for the Rental Date

On the day of your rental, you will need to provide the following: 1) a valid driver's license (for vehicles over 50CC’s motorcycle endorsement is required) and 2) the credit card used to reserve the vehicle.

Orientation

Windy City Scooter & Bicycle Rental provides a thorough overview of the vehicle that will be rented.  Generally this overview takes about 10-15 minutes and is required for all renters, no matter their personal experience.

Renters Driving Record

Tickets are not accepted as proof of driver's license.  You must have a valid driver's license to rent any vehicle, no exceptions.  If renter has a negative driving record that includes, but not limited to, DUI, DWI, having a revoked license, license suspension or any other criminal conviction within the last 5 years he/she may not be eligible to rent a vehicle.  We generate a complete background check on every renter.

Use of Vehicle for DMV Testing

Windy City Scooter offers vehicles for use to obtain M endorsement on an Illinois issued drivers license.  Vehicles can be delivered to a predetermined DMV facility or the vehicle can be rented by an individual possesing an M endorsement on their drivers license.  All rentals for this purpose follow the same fee structure noted on the pricing page and delivery paragraph above.
